About MaxPrintAlign
What does MaxPrintAlign do?
MaxPrintAlign is a Shopify Admin app for creating printer-aware product barcode/SKU labels. The normal workflow is: save a printer profile, calibrate the physical output, select printable Shopify product variants, review quantities, then generate and download an exact-size PDF.
Is MaxPrintAlign a shipping-label app?
No. MaxPrintAlign is designed for Shopify product barcode/SKU labels, not customer shipping labels, postage, fulfillment labels, or address labels. The current app does not request Shopify customer or order scopes.
Does MaxPrintAlign print directly to my printer?
No. MaxPrintAlign generates an exact-size PDF. You print that PDF through your normal browser or operating-system print workflow using the correct printer, media size, orientation, and 100% / Actual size settings.
Does MaxPrintAlign create UPCs, GTINs, barcodes, or SKUs for my products?
No. MaxPrintAlign uses barcode or SKU values that already exist on Shopify product variants. If a barcode exists, the app uses it. If no barcode exists but a SKU does, the SKU can be used as the printable barcode value. MaxPrintAlign does not turn a SKU into an official UPC or GTIN.
Does MaxPrintAlign change my Shopify products?
The current product-label workflow is read-oriented. MaxPrintAlign reads the Shopify product data needed to identify printable variants and label information. It does not require inventory, location, customer, or order scopes for this workflow, and it is not designed to rewrite your product catalog.
Getting started
What order should I follow the first time I use MaxPrintAlign?
Use this sequence: create a printer profile → generate the calibration test → adjust X/Y offset or scale if needed → save calibration → choose Shopify product variants and quantities → review the batch → generate/download the PDF.
Do I need a calibrated printer profile before creating product labels?
Yes. Calibration is what ties the generated label layout to the physical printer and label stock you actually use. Complete the printer-profile and calibration steps before generating a product-label batch.
Can I save more than one printer or label setup?
MaxPrintAlign is designed around reusable printer profiles so different printer/label combinations can be kept separate. The number of profiles available to a store can depend on the current plan or product configuration shown inside the app.
Printers, label sizes, and calibration
Which printers does MaxPrintAlign support?
MaxPrintAlign includes setup presets for common Zebra, DYMO, Brother, and Rollo printer families, plus a Generic / Custom option. Presets are starting points, not model-by-model certification. Real compatibility depends on the printer, driver, DPI, supported media size, scaling behavior, and calibration.
What if my printer is not listed?
Use Generic / Custom when the printer driver can print PDF output at the physical label dimensions you need. Enter the correct label width, height, and DPI, then calibrate the printer against actual output.
Can I use a custom label size?
Yes. Printer profiles can use the physical label width and height required by your printer and stock. Generic / Custom is available when a preset does not match the setup you use.
What does calibration change?
Calibration adjusts the relationship between generated label content and the physical printer/media. User-facing controls include horizontal offset, vertical offset, nudge amount, and scale. Small corrections are usually better than large changes.
When should I recalibrate?
Recalibrate if alignment changes after switching printers, label stock, driver settings, DPI, media/sensor configuration, operating-system print settings, or other hardware-related conditions.
Why should I print at 100% / Actual size?
A correctly dimensioned PDF can still print incorrectly if the browser, PDF viewer, driver, or operating system automatically fits, shrinks, or enlarges it. Start with Actual size / 100% and disable automatic scaling.
Products and label batches
Which Shopify products are printable?
A product variant is printable when it has an existing Shopify barcode or SKU. Variants with neither value are excluded from the printable list.
What happens if a product has both a barcode and a SKU?
MaxPrintAlign uses the existing barcode first. If no barcode exists but a SKU does, the SKU becomes the printable barcode value.
I edited a product in Shopify. Why do I not see the change yet?
Allow the change to be reflected through Shopify, then reload MaxPrintAlign before generating a new label job.
Does previewing a batch consume label usage?
No. Selecting products and reviewing the batch does not consume product-label usage. Product labels are counted after successful PDF generation.
Usage, PDFs, and recovery
Are calibration test sheets counted as product labels?
No. Calibration sheets are separate from product-label usage.
Is there a free or introductory label allowance?
If a free or introductory product-label allowance is active for your store, the current amount is shown inside MaxPrintAlign. Calibration sheets are separate from that product-label allowance.
What happens when I reach my label allowance?
MaxPrintAlign shows the current usage/allowance state inside the app. Current plan limits, upgrades, or additional usage options are shown in the app or Shopify App Store rather than being hard-coded into this FAQ.
What happens if PDF generation fails?
If PDF generation fails, the product-label allowance should not be charged for that failed generation attempt, and the app presents a recovery path.
What does “PDF expired” mean?
A temporary PDF can expire while the completed saved job remains. An already-counted completed job can be regenerated without counting the same product-label usage again.
Does downloading or regenerating the same completed job count again?
Re-downloading the same completed saved job does not count the product-label usage again. If its temporary PDF has expired, that already-counted job can be regenerated without a second usage charge for the same job.
Shopify access, privacy, and security
Why does MaxPrintAlign need Shopify product access?
MaxPrintAlign requests read access to Shopify product data so it can identify printable product variants and use their existing barcode or SKU information for the label workflow.
Does MaxPrintAlign need inventory, location, customer, or order data?
No. The current label workflow does not require Shopify inventory, location, customer, or order scopes.
What sensitive information should I never send to support?
Never send passwords, Shopify app secrets, access tokens, payment-card information, or other authentication credentials through support.
Troubleshooting
My output is shifted. What should I check first?
Confirm that the PDF is printing at Actual size / 100%. Then adjust the relevant horizontal or vertical offset in small steps and regenerate the calibration test.
The physical label size is wrong. Should I change scale first?
Not immediately. First verify the label dimensions, DPI, driver media size, and print-dialog scaling. Use scale only after confirming those settings are correct.
A product is missing from the printable list. What should I check?
Confirm that the Shopify variant has an existing barcode or SKU, allow recent Shopify edits to update, then reload MaxPrintAlign.
A printed barcode does not scan. What should I check?
Verify the source barcode/SKU value, print quality, printhead condition, contrast, scanner support, and that the driver or print dialog did not distort the bars through scaling.
Can MaxPrintAlign fix a damaged or incorrectly configured printer?
No. MaxPrintAlign can compensate for small alignment differences through its saved calibration controls, but it cannot repair hardware, damaged printheads, bad sensors, incorrect drivers, incompatible media, or printer configuration problems.
What should I do before a large label run?
Run a small test first. Confirm label size, DPI, media, orientation, Actual size / 100% printing, barcode readability, and alignment before committing to a large batch.
Where can I get more help?
